An aquarium on the rooftop of Sunshine City; general admission 2.600-3.200 ¥ depending on the day.

The Sunshine Aquarium in Ikebukuro is one of the most original aquariums in the world: its facilities combine a classic indoor zone with an outdoor area on the rooftop of the Sunshine City skyscraper that offers panoramic views of Tokyo at 60 metres height. The most famous attraction is "Penguins in the Sky", a tank hanging over the void about 12 metres wide where African penguins swim over your head with the Tokyo skyline in the background. There is also an elevated walkway with pelicans and other birds, as well as touch zones with rays and small sharks indoors. The aquarium houses more than 750 species and around 33.000 specimens in total. Admission for adults ranges between 2.600 ¥ and 3.200 ¥ depending on the season and the day; for children from 1.300 ¥. The usual hours are 10:00 to 18:00 (last entry at 17:00), although they vary by time of year. To get there, leave by the East exit of Ikebukuro station (JR, Metro Marunouchi or Fukutoshin) and follow the signs to Sunshine City, about 8 minutes' walk away. Combine it with the Sunshine 60 skyscraper for even broader views.
