The Nara Kingyo Museum is an original and very photogenic exhibition space dedicated to the Japanese goldfish, the kingyo, a true symbol of Japan's popular summer culture. Unlike a conventional aquarium, here the fish are presented as part of artistic installations: fish tanks shaped like works of art, projection rooms with mapping, floral terrariums and the so-called diamond-cut aquarium, with light and colour effects that create an almost dreamlike atmosphere. It is a short but very pleasant visit, ideal for taking photos, resting from the heat and enjoying with family or as a couple. Admission is around 1.500 ¥. The museum is in the centre of Nara, a short distance from the Higashimuki and Mochiidono shopping area and Nara park, so it is easy to combine with a visit to Todai-ji and the deer. It is advisable to check the opening hours before going and to book the ticket online to speed up entry on busy days. It is a different and light plan to complement the great temples of the city.
