Kaiyukan + Tempozan Ferris Wheel (day plan)

Osaka · Osaka Bay Area · Animals

A full day in the bay area: Kaiyukan aquarium and Tempozan Ferris wheel with views of the port.

The Osaka bay area combines two of the city's most unusual attractions in a single trip. The Kaiyukan Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world, with a central tank eight metres deep where whale sharks swim; the full visit lasts between two and three hours and admission costs around 2.400 yen for adults. A few metres from the aquarium is the Tempozan Ferris Wheel, 112,5 metres tall, one of the largest in Japan: each turn lasts about 15 minutes and the ticket costs 800 yen, offering panoramic views of the bay, the Akashi bridge and the city skyline. You can combine both attractions in one day without rushing and take the chance to eat at the Tempozan Marketplace, the shopping and dining centre next to the aquarium. To get to the area, take the subway to Osakako station (Chuo line), which is a five-minute walk from the aquarium entrance. Both the Ferris wheel and the aquarium are accessible with the Osaka Amazing Pass, which significantly reduces the cost. The best time for the Ferris wheel is at dusk, when the light over the bay is especially beautiful.
