Hand-made udon class in Nara
Learn to make udon noodles from scratch (knead, stamp and cut the dough) and taste them at the end, with English support; from around 3.000 ¥.
Udon is one of the most beloved noodles of Japanese cuisine, and learning to make it by hand is a fun and very hands-on experience to take home. In this class in Nara, an instructor guides you through the entire traditional process: mixing and kneading the flour, stamping the dough with your feet (a classic and very entertaining step to achieve the characteristic elastic texture) and rolling it out and cutting it by knife into thin strips. At the end, you cook and taste your own freshly made noodles. The activity has English support and is suitable for all ages, including those with no cooking experience. The class starts at around 3.000 ¥ and usually lasts between an hour and an hour and a half. It is advisable to book the slot in advance. It is a great plan for families and for rainy days, and a more informal and homely alternative to sushi classes. It is in the centre of Nara, easy to combine with a visit to the park and the temples.
